PSF-2cSt Silicone Heat Transfer Fluid is a clear, colorless and odorless low-viscosity linear Polydimethylsiloxane (CAS#63148-62-9) with a viscosity of 2cSt (centistokes) or 2mm2/sec. The PSF-2cSt Silicone Heat Transfer Fluid is widely used as a cold and heat transfer medium in Freeze Drying (Lyophilization) applications.
PSF-2cSt Silicone Heat Transfer Fluid is characterized by its low viscosity, low pour point (-100°C), low V.T.C, low vapor pressure, wide service temperature range (closed system), low surface tension, hydroscopic nature and inertness to virtually all materials, including o-rings, gaskets, valves and seals*.
With a pour point of –100°C, PSF-2cSt Silicone Heat Transfer Fluid is recommended for temperatures as low as –80°C. It’s low viscosity-temperature coefficient or V.T.C. (viscosity @99°C ÷viscosity @ 38°C), means that the fluids viscosity will not increase significantly even at extremely low temperatures. For example, at –60°C, the viscosity of PSF-2cSt is >20cSt. This allows the fluid to circulate and provide a consistent temperature.
PSF-2cSt Silicone Heat Transfer Fluid/Cold Transfer Fluid has a Thermal conductivity of 0.11 W/m °C or 0.00028 g/cal/cm/sec°C. Its Specific heat value is 1.8 J/g °C @ 25°C.
PSF-2cSt Silicone Heat Transfer Fluid is exempt from federal VOC Regulations including CARB and South Coast Air Quality Management. It is HAP-free and RoHS Compliant as well.
Applications include: low temperature closed system baths, low temp constant temperature baths, low temp circulating baths, refrigerated baths, transfer fluid for cryostats, low temperature heat transfer baths, low viscosity calibration fluid, heat transfer fluid in freeze drying equipment, fluid for thermostats, calibration bath fluids for low temperature, silicone fluid for temperature control systems
*not recommended for silicone o –rings due to the possibility of swelling.
**Closed system baths are systems from which air has been excluded.
