What are Dimethicones? Dimethicones are linear, Polydimethylsiloxanes with viscosities ranging from 1.5cSt to 20 million cSt. They are clear, colorless, odorless and inert fluids that are used in a wide array of cosmetic formulations. Dimethicones are characterized by their softening effect on skin and hair. They are hydrophobic (water-repellent) without restricting respiration of the skin, which makes them beneficial in skin creams and lotions. The inertness of the fluids enhance the stability and shelf life of the cosmetic formulations.
Dimethicones are compatible with a wide variety of cosmetic solvents and are particularly effective when blended with cyclomethicones. Lower viscosities have lower surface tensions and greater miscibility in mineral oils, light esters and suntan agents.
Due to these characteristics, Dimethicones are widely used in skin creams, suntan lotions, hair conditioners, bath oils, shaving foams, shampoos, etc..

Use: Super Low-Viscosity Dimethicone Fluids are clear, colorless, and odorless linear polydimethylsiloxane fluids CAS #63148-62-9 that have the INCI Name Dimethicone. These fluids range in viscosities from 5cSt (centistoke) to 20cSt. Low-Viscosity Dimethicone Fluids are characterized by their low surface tensions, low pour points, low temperature stability, excellent lubricity, miscibility with a wide range of cosmetic oils, and soft-emollient feel. Due to their low surface tensions and emollient feel, they are widely used as base fluids in a number of personal care products for hair and skin.
Low Viscosity Dimethicone Fluids provide a hydrophobic, but breathable barrier that allows the skin to perspire. They are are particuliarly effective when blended with Cyclomethicone fluids.
