Products Description: What are Cyclomethicones? Cyclomethicones are silicones that possess a cyclical structure rather than the linear structures of dimethyl silicones. Low heat of vaporization and the ability to select a desired vapor pressure has led their use in cosmetic formulations as base fluids and carrying agents.
Cyclomethicones evaporate quickly and are miscible with a wide array of cosmetic oils, silicone oils, waxes, esters and hydrocarbons. They are excellent carrying agents for both cosmetic and industrial applications.
Cosmetic Applications include: body sprays, room sprays, antiperspirants, deodorants, hair sprays, cleansing creams, skin creams, lotions and stick products, bath oils, suntan and shaving product, make-up and nail polishes.
Cyclomethicones are being more widely accepted for industrial applications due to their exemption from Federal VOC regulations including California VOC (CARB) and OTC regulations. Due to their varying rates of evaporation and solvency power, they are excellent replacements for non-VOC petroleum-based solvents. D5 is an effective solvent for dry cleaning application that will not degrade fabrics or make colors run.
Cyclo‐2244 (D4) Cyclomethicone is a polydimethyl‐cyclosiloxane that is composed mainly of octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane (CAS# 556‐67‐2). The product is clear, tasteless, essentially odorless, non‐greasy and non‐stinging.
Cyclo‐2245 (D5) Cyclomethicone is a polydimethylcyclosiloxane that is composed of Decamethylcyclopentasiloxane (CAS# 541‐02‐6). The product is clear, tasteless, essentially odorless, non‐greasy and non‐stinging.
Cyclo-2345 (D5/D6) Cyclomethicone is a polydimethylcyclosiloxane that is composed of approximately 75% Cyclopentasiloxane (CAS #541-02-6) and approximately 25% of Dodecamethylcyclohexasiloxane (CAS# 540-97-6 ). The fluid is clear, tasteless, essentially odorless, non-greasy and non-stinging.
