Zinc Rich Primer
90% Zinc in the dry film…..provides the equivalent corrosion protection of Hot Dip Galvanizing
Use: Zinc Rich Primer is an organic zinc rich compound that protects steel and ferrous metals that are exposed to severe corrosive environments. This high performance epoxy compound fuses zinc to the metal substrate and provides longterm galvanic protection against corrosion equal to Hot Dip Galvanizing.
The finished film of Zinc Rich Primer contains 90% zinc (meets and exceeds ASTM A780 specification for touch-up and repair of Hot Dip Galvanize). Zinc Rich Primer is self-healing, and prevents creepage even when the surface is penetrated or scratched. It is widely used for the recoating and touch-up of damaged galvanized surfaces.
After curing, Zinc Rich Primer may be coated with conventional primers and finishes such as epoxy, urethanes, acrylics & chlorinated rubber. Zinc Rich Primer is highly Resistant to salt corrosion & water. It is formulated for heavy maintenance, and is used on exterior surfaces subjected to severe corrosion & rust conditions.
Properties:
- 90% Organic Zinc in Dry Film
- Long Term Galvanic Corrosion Protection
- Meets ASTM A780 Specifications for touch up and repair of Hot Dip Galvanized surfaces
- Provides the equivalent protection of Hot Dip Galvanize to damaged galvanized surfaces.
- Self-healing: provides protection even when scratched.
- Long term protection against salt corrosion
- Single package epoxy
- Convenient on-site application…avoids expense of shipping parts to a Hot Dip Galvanizing

Surface Preparation:
In order to provide galvanic protection, it is critical that the surface be free of oil, moisture, rust, paint before applying. The zinc must have contact with the bare metal surface to provide an electrically conductive (galvanic) film. Solvent cleaning (SSPC-SP1) is usually sufficient for new steel surfaces.
For previously Painted Surfaces, wire brush cleaning (SSPC-SP2), power tool cleaning, (SSPC-SP3) or commercial blast cleaning (SSPC-SP6) may be necessary to remove all rust and loose paint. Again, zinc must have contact with bare metal to provide galvanic protection.
Availability: 1-gallon pail & 5-gallon pail packaging
Silver Zinc Primer #70
Brighter Appearance that more closely matches the appearance of Hot Dip Galvanize
Use: Silver Zinc Primer #70 is an organic zinc rich compound that protects steel and ferrous metals that are exposed to severe corrosive environments. This high performance epoxy compound fuses zinc to the metal substrate and provides long-term galvanic protection against corrosion equal to Hot Dip Galvanizing. Unlike conventional cold galvanizing compounds, which have a flat gray color, Silver Zinc Primer #70 has a brighter "silver-like"appearance that more closely matches the appearance of Hot Dip Galvanize.
The finished film of Silver Zinc Primer #70 contains 70% zinc. It meets and exceeds ASTM A780 specification for touch-up and repair of Hot Dip Galvanize. Silver Zinc Primer #70 is self-healing, and prevents creepage even when the surface is penetrated or scratched. It is widely used for the recoating and touch-up of damaged galvanized surfaces.
After curing, Silver Zinc Primer #70 may be coated with conventional primers and finishes such as epoxy, urethanes, acrylics & chlorinated rubber. However, it is most often used as both the primer/topcoat due to its bright appearance. Silver Zinc Primer #70 is highly Resistant to salt corrosion & water. It is formulated for heavy maintenance, and is used on exterior surfaces subjected to severe corrosion & rust conditions.
